Dr. Michael Tessier is dedicated to providing his patients with the most pleasant dental experience possible. To this end, he utilizes the latest advances in dental technology so that patients receive "21st-century dentistry" today. New materials and procedures have made dental treatment safer, more effective, and less painful than ever before. Advanced dental technology is available at Dr. Tessier's Las Flores office, conveniently located between Rancho Santa Margarita and Mission Viejo. From teeth whitening to porcelain veneers, and from gum treatment to TMJ correction, Dr. Tessier makes use of cutting-edge technology to address a wide variety of dental needs. Dr. Tessier does not believe his south Orange County and Mission Viejo patients should have to wait until laser dentistry or other revolutionary treatments become widespread before they receive the benefits from the treatments. If the technology is available, it should be used immediately to improve patient comfort and results. Your smile is too valuable! Dr. Tessier offers a full range of advanced procedures so that you can achieve a flawless, beautifully white smile that turns heads and boosts your self-confidence.

Laser Dentistry

There are approximately 150,000 dentists in the United States, and the American Dental Association has estimated that more than 95 percent of them do not offer laser dentistry. Dr. Michael Tessier proudly belongs to the small percentage of dentists that do use this invaluable tool. Laser dentistry eliminates the aspects of dental visits that bother patients the most: the sound of the drill during the procedure, the anesthetic shot, and the numbness afterward. Treatment is performed quietly, without the whining noise of the drill that is so aggravating to so many patients. Also, because anesthesia is often unnecessary, patients do not experience any numbness in the surrounding tissues (such as the gums or tongue) following the procedure. How much peace of mind is there in taking your children to the dentist for a filling, knowing they won't be getting a shot? If those concerns have kept you from seeking treatment, you no longer have to avoid receiving dental care. Dr. Tessier's southern Orange County and Mission Viejo patients greatly benefit from laser dentistry, as it significantly reduces the anxiety and discomfort they may have experienced with previous dental treatments.

Laser Dentistry with PerioLase® and Waterlase® MD Lasers

Only five percent of U.S. dentists use a laser to perform advanced dental procedures. In order to provide a high level of care and service to his patients, Dr. Tessier uses two lasers! Both the PerioLase® and the Waterlase® MD lasers offer significant benefits to patients. The PerioLase® laser is specifically designed for periodontal (gum) treatment. Inflamed gums (gingivitis) can dangerously impact oral health, causing tooth decay and bad breath. In addition, recent studies show that gingivitis may even be a factor in the development of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and other serious conditions. Before the advent of laser dentistry, treatment of problems with the gums or the bony sockets in which teeth reside involved surgery and sutures, and generally required a long, uncomfortable recovery period. With laser dentistry, treatment is easy and virtually pain free. The procedure is quick, and patients can generally resume their full activities within a day or so. Your gums are too important to go without proper care, so Dr. Tessier uses laser dentistry for treatment that is as convenient and comfortable as possible.

The state-of-the-art Waterlase® MD laser can be used for a wide variety of treatment purposes. It can replace the drill in almost any procedure. Root canals, removal of tooth decay, and cavity preparation can all be performed using the quiet, painless laser. Often, no anesthesia is required! Also, cosmetic gum enhancement, tooth contouring, and other aesthetic procedures can be performed with laser dentistry to enhance your smile and the self-confidence that goes along with that smile.

Going to the dentist no longer needs to be a scary experience. Dr. Tessier's office in Las Flores is one of the few practices in the country to treat patients with laser technology. If you live in Mission Viejo and southern Orange County and are interested in laser dentistry, contact us today to arrange a consultation.

Zoom2!® Teeth Whitening

We live in beautiful Southern California, so we have many reasons to smile. Because our teeth are visible so much of the time, teeth whitening may be an especially attractive procedure for Southern California residents. Dr. Tessier's practice serves the southern Orange County communities, including Ladera Ranch and Mission Viejo. Several clinical studies have confirmed that teeth whitening is an extremely safe procedure. The procedure can dramatically restore your smile's aesthetics and radiance, which may have diminished over time. The aging process, or the consumption of tea, colas, red wine, or cigarettes, can cause teeth to stain and darken. With a teeth whitening procedure at Dr. Tessier's Las Flores office, your teeth can be luminously white once again.

Dr. Tessier uses the Zoom2!® tooth whitening system, featured on the ABC television program Extreme Makeover. The procedure is performed in the office in just over an hour. With the Zoom2!® regimen, the light-activated whitening solution applied to the teeth effectively percolates staining material out of the pores of the tooth enamel. The patient leaves the office with his teeth dramatically whiter and younger looking. The light and gel work in tandem to produce significant results that are immediately noticeable following the procedure. If you desire a bright, beautiful smile and you live in the Mission Viejo area, please arrange a teeth whitening consultation with Dr. Tessier today.

Porcelain Veneers

Cosmetic dentistry technology has developed in recent years so that dental solutions are less invasive and take less time to perform. As a result, patient comfort and satisfaction have improved significantly. Dr. Tessier is proud to offer the best that cosmetic dentistry has to offer to his Orange County and Mission Viejo patients, including porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are thin ceramic coverings that can be affixed to the top of crooked or chipped teeth. In some cases, when teeth are small and there are spaces between them (or they're too short), no tooth reduction at all is necessary. The porcelain veneers that are bonded to the front of the teeth are .03mm thick. In other cases, when, due to crookedness or severe staining, tooth structure removal is required, we still remove almost nothing. The more sensitive underlying dentin is untouched, so the procedure is friendlier to the tooth. The bond is better so the veneers are much less apt to come off. The veneer and the tooth surface bond together extremely well. People will never notice your veneers – they will only notice your beautiful smile!

Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns are a tremendous cosmetic development, also. Traditionally, tooth-colored porcelain was baked onto metal "copings." These "copings" were gray, and very frequently showed, leaving a very unsightly line at the gum line. All-porcelain crowns never show that line. Porcelain crowns are translucent, allowing light to pass through, which makes the whole tooth look more real. Additionally, the newest generation of porcelain crowns has almost twice as much flexibility as is necessary to compensate for chewing forces in a fixed bridge. They are completely natural looking.

If you live in Mission Viejo or the surrounding communities and are interested in porcelain veneers or porcelain crowns, please contact the office of Dr. Michael Tessier today.

Non-Mercury Fillings

Mercury is a toxic substance, and, since we have so many optional materials to choose from to replace it, should not be used for fillings. When we have to replace old mercury-silver (amalgam) fillings, either because there is decay around them, or because they're just unsightly, we use tooth-colored plastic or porcelain filling materials. Some studies have shown that mercury from amalgam fillings can be absorbed into saliva and the bloodstream, and oral and overall health can be severely compromised. Therefore Dr. Tessier uses only fillings and materials that are mercury free.

Digital X-Rays

Most patients know the drawbacks associated with conventional X-ray systems: the fear of being exposed to radiation, the worry over biting down correctly on the film, the long delays for processing, the grainy image… the list goes on and on. Now, with digital X-rays, these problems have largely been eliminated. A small sensor (with a sanitary cover) is unobtrusively placed in the patient's mouth. The X-rays are produced immediately and can be digitally enlarged so that patients can clearly see the results. In addition, the digital X-rays can be sent right away to insurance companies so that claims can be filed expediently. However, perhaps the most significant advantage of digital X-rays is that they emit 90 percent less radiation than their older, analog predecessors, which were, themselves, already safe. In fact, it is safer to get a set of X-rays than it is to work on your tan at the beach.

T-Scan® Bite Analysis

To analyze and treat potential TMJ disorders of his Mission Viejo and Orange County patients, Dr. Tessier uses a revolutionary computer-generated bite analysis program called T-Scan®. This program can determine the exact location of bite irregularities, and it enables Dr. Tessier to formulate a corrective plan.
